Do We Still Like Overalls?

I would have honestly guessed we’ve had it by now with this look, as last year, every single blogger was photographed in a pair of denim overalls looking cooler than cool. But what do you say, what do you know? It's not over till it’s over. At least not according to the online media, pushing stories of this trend down our throats, cause really now, the overall amount of err… overall pics has drastically dropped. Yet… their cool vibes remain intact.

I hated overall as a kid, never did them in the 90s, so what, are they going to surprise me this time round? My boundaries aside, and an open mind ahead and what do you know? I see celebrities, fashionistas and style bloggers doing this look like crazy. Actually I kind of hold them all responsible alongside Rihanna, and that ’90’s inspo (TLC – for a rap urban take on the farmer’s uniform or Katie Holmes for that goody-goody look). And the funny part,  the only time I wore an overall was my secondary school uniform-pinafore overall-now -posh-WTF, right? Lesson of the day: rely on your fashionista subconscious to take the right decisions when you get lazy on the upper floor. Still, are not all that great. I bought three years ago but NEVER wore it. Probably can’t fit into it anymore and that’s just because it was purchased during my skin-tight-obsession-period. Ah well… we’ve all got our fashion skeletons in the closet.

Anyway, enough about me & my life choices. Why don’t we eye-ball the street styles & their sartorial choices when wearing an OVERALL.

Growing Trend Among Men

I hope am not late on this, I've been seeing this growing trend and been wanting to write about it. Yes, The Facial Hair Is Back in Style! About six or seven years ago most young guys wanted a slim jawline cut and, over the lips, something more detailed and more sharp, now they’re going for a more natural look. But guys, you need to be cautions. When it’s too natural, it’s a bit scruffy and out of hand. With hair, you can really fix it up, but a beard is more stubborn. I see guys curling and texturizing it just to make it look good.

I for one hated this trend but when I saw some photos on instagram, I had a little change of heart. They even have a harshtag on Instagram #beardgang-lol. I think some of these guy actually have Facial hair to make them look or feel good just like women putting on makeup. Some might have it to give them a cover if they are more introverted-just saying.

Do you think this trend will soon go out of fashion?

Lace It UP

I used to hate the lace look because of the close minded trait I thought it bared: way too girly and too feminine. And I don’t do that. But little did I know that LACE can be so versatile really. I also thought they were mainly for our mothers until seven years ago when I was faced with the major life event of being a bride – I had to (among other things) cross the dress off the list. I knew what I didn’t want: no princess or ball gown cuts for me, and no lace just because I found it to be so pretentious and granny glamorous borderline decadent. I opted for a simple sequined long dress-less dramatic!

Not long after my wedding, I went shopping with my cousin at Balogun market (Lagos) and I got bitch slapped by the very clear and simple reality: the lace dresses were light years away from their un-laced siblings. They were fabulous and that was how my LACE love affair begun-lol

The TREND factor in this LACE thing is not even an issue, cause really lace has been in fashion (more or less as a front-lady). One can go to the office in a very proper feminine knee-length dress, to cocktails in lace pencil skirts, to events when lace anything can be paired with men inspired items: tees, sweatshirts, sneakers, statement jewelry and what not.  My love for lace is overwhelming. I can literally don anything in lace. It’s so incredibly sexy, decadent, and very very seductive that I cannot believe I used to hate this fabric years ago.

Genevieve: Beautiful on Black Dress Trend

Miss Genevieve Nnaji shimmered and sparkled in a long black dress and gold link detailing at the closing night of the 2014 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF). She looked effortlessly stunning. Even though her make up isn't on point in this photo, I still love her style anytime any day! Do you like?

My Peggy Pant

A popular 1980s fashion trend was the easy peg top trouser which today returns in several guises.
Right now the peg top is growing as the newest pant style to be seen wearing.  Most new slim leg pants have upper fullness or volume usually tapering to a narrow leg or cuff. Some harem pants have great lower volume too.

I expect to see plenty of carrot-top trousers-so called not because of their colour, but because they have similar silhouette to a tapering carrot.  The peg-top fullness is at the waistline and some trousers can be moderately streamlined.  Others drape into extra gathers at ankle or have a low calf tapered finish. Here is a photo of what I wore to church last Sunday. I got lots of compliment. Anyone can rock this but the secret is to tune into the best of trouser fashion whilst keeping an eye on value and quality for money.  Do you like?

Kristen Stewart’s Nipples: Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction At Hollywood Film Awards

Beware of the wardrobe malfunctions! A nasty fashion mishap made Kstew its prey at the 2014 Hollywood Film Awards. She looked totally glam in a pretty white dress with a grey turtleneck crop top over the dress. However, the actress fell victim to a nip slip and what’s worse is that it was onstage for everyone to see! Her strapless dress fell a little low and accidentally showcased her nipples! Even though her metallic fashion armour couldn’t shield her from the malfunction completely, at least it was there! A more serious fashion catastrophe was narrowly avoided. Poor Kristen. I still love her no matter what. She looked adorable and she's smiling!

Let's Talk Wide Leg

When you start adding up all the fashion trends, you actually wonder if we’re ever going to come through with something new? We all know fashion is cyclical…I must confess. I am longing for some new fashion movements, ideas and controversy in style that will sweep me off my feet and have me stare in shock and wonder at some new unseen-before fashion & styles. Until then we’ll always have the comfortable safe past to look into and take inspiration from. Such is the case of the bohemian 1970’s wide leg pants - 70s is the new 90s! Again (without intention I tell you) I have discovered yet another fashion craze from back in the day. If a while ago I was so excited over heavy coloured outfits, today I decided to give in to the Flared Jeans & Trousers Trend. Though I wasn’t too keen on the bell bottom, high-waisted retro looking jeans… I stand corrected, and for that I blame Kourtney Kardashian, Rita Dominic and Kate Moss. I mean have you seen how these women look in flared jeans? Ridiculously cool, feminine and chic!

There’s a little something for us all from the classic retro look to the opulent extravagance some of us are willing to try. But really, Is this trend worth the-back-in-time fashion journey or not? Here are few photos

White-Oh-Wednesday

Once upon a time, white dresses were saved for The Day, you know. When we’d all meet that special one and had the best excuse to drape ourselves in white (read princess attire) for one whole day. Well thank God that misconception is gone – of saving the white looks for later and only for one day.  Fast forward a few decades and the same girls need no more excuses to don white in plain day.

LBD (little black dress) has gotten the ‘‘Bitch please, it’s my time to shine!” slap from the LWD (little white dress)-lol. Trends have been switching between all neon, prints (floral) match-matchy black. But anyway let’s get on with today’s Trend---WHITES. Actually I think any outfit in white is very chic… What do you think?

Sneakers Obsession

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past year, you’re probably aware of everyone’s latest fashion craze: THE SNEAKERS! Why the obsession? It's simply because fashion today is about having fun, looking chic & sophisticated rather than too polished. Hence the sneakers’ ubiquity & everyone’s love affair with them. I too am guilty of the sartorial fad, so when I was gifted with  pair of Hi-tech sneakers I was ecstatic.

We’ve had it with uncomfortable shoes, and the moment designers gave us the athletic trend, we took it and said our thank you’s while up-ing our sporty game on a daily basis, not just when going to the gym. Today every single girl & woman with a penchant for fashion is rocking sneakers with just about anything from skirts to dresses, suit trousers, jeans, shorts and what not. But not just any sneakers, that’s the trick: it’s the once-running shoes, in bright colours, or just a touch of neon or bright shade to them.

They even work for… work you know, depending on your domain, but chances are if jeans are OK, so will a pair of sneakers be, with say… a black minimal dress or pant-suit. Weekends & casual strolls around town are more fun when you have the most comfy and colored shoes on. From quirky styles to minimal looks everything works!!

It's All In The Details!

So we all have to wear clothes, but does that mean we all have to look the same? After a while, the predictable combinations to be constructed from dresses, tops, trousers and skirts can get a bit same. How about wearing an item of clothing in a new way?

Designers have been fascinated by straight lines and rigid forms, strong shapes and architectural designs in clothes – so no wonder the structured trend caught on. Especially in haute-couture. Remember all those carpet events when celebrities donned super structured dresses? Yeah… there was a reason for that. The trend that’s upon us. But is it safe to say it’s quite limited to the red carpet and when discussing it we’re basically just discussing Structured Elegance in Evening Dresses? Or did it stretch out to the streets as well? And most importantly, is it making justice to the body or is it just a fad?  Well, maybe not.

I see a lot of Nigerian fashion designers transforming a basic top to a tick heavy blouse worn wit nothing but a black bra underneath They've pretty much put major twist in the designs of garment, making it become more individual. Here are few designs from Nigerian designers. Let your own imagination take over too,  and you may find that outfit you want to put a twist on. Enjoy!

Plastic Fashion

Life in plastic is pretty fantastic if you limit to shoes, bags and perhaps the so necessary rain-coat, or umbrella. From designers, to celebs, to street style un-famous fashion icons – everyone is doing plastic. What do you think? Too crazy or bring it on? Truth is… fashion is about having fun so why not enjoy its little style gimmick. Besides the retro trend is back, hence the plastic spotlight. Let's look at few items here. I love these items. they are versatile and be sure to don it on anything!

The Working Woman

There is something extremely rewarding about working-as long as you love what you do, of course. For me, it's the process of creating and designing. Although going to an office from 9-5 may seem rather unexciting, it's all in how you approach it. Becoming an expert in a certain field, or multiple fields for some and being awesome at your chosen expertise is a wonderful thing. It's a knowledge you own and control, and getting to do something you love 5days a week is anything but boring. Who wants to sit at home all day doing nothing? I love being productive and inspiring others to do their best as well. An enthusiastic mentality will change the way you feel about your job, i promise.

Not all jobs require a suit, but don't frown if your job does. As far as fashion is concerned, there is nothing more sleek and sophisticated than a beautiful, well-fitted suit. Suits are  not "corporate" and "uptight", they are really very sexy and fashionable. A pinstripe suit is a classic selection, and a simple black and grey suits are definite must-haves. If you are new to suit world, i would recommend checking out the many fine suits of Theory. Not only do the theory suits look incredibly suave, but they also are comfortable and tend to fit perfectly.
Use bright coloured tops to pop simple suits to play with different looks. And never underestimate the freshly pressed white button down shirt, which pulls together a classy look  when worn under any suit. Keep it classy and make sure it , matches, but don't be afraid to finish off the look with a bright-coloured heel. As your suit collection grows, throw in some not-so-standard colours, such as a rich blue or a subtle silver-grey suit. So don't whine about having a dress code at work, get excited to create some killer looks, which will heighten your professional attitude and energetic, positive outlook toward your job. If you start the day off feeling like a million bucks, you will be ready to take in anything the day throws at you. You earned your position at work, so be proud to do the amazing job you do! And it feels great to do what you do in style! Do have a fabulous week!!
